Leeds based saxophonist and flautist Matt Cliffe brings a fresh set of new compositions inspired by improvised and traditional music from around the world. His band features; Hugh Vincent piano, Elliot Roffe bass and Will Blackstone drums. This event is in the Snug, free entry and the music start at 20:00.
Matt Cliffe is a saxophonist, flautist and composer currently based in Leeds, UK. Originally from Leek in the Staffordshire Moorlands, Matt moved to Leeds in 2012 to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music, now Leeds Conservatoire. Whilst there he studied with saxophonists Rob Mitchell and Ed Jones. Since then he has managed to develop his own personal style and approach on the flute and saxophone leading him to be an in demand artist in the whole UK as well as in the North. He has notably been part of Matthew Halsalls band since 2018 performing across Europe as well as featuring on releases such as ‘Salute to the Sun’ and ‘An Ever Changing View’. Other artists Matt has appeared with are Jasmine Myra, Abstract Orchestra, and K.O.G. In 2022 he released his first album,’Dreams’ on DIRTH records, an introspective solo album and is currently working on material for his second which he shall be bringing to live audiences with his new band in 2024. Additionally he is a member of Ancient Infinity Orchestra and Mu Quintet. He has performed at such venues and festivals as Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican Centre, Union Chapel, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Paradiso Amsterdam, Love Supreme, Glastonbury, We Out Here, Shambala and North Sea Jazz Festival.
